One of the ones I have a problem with is the "Rodgort's" skills. Now, don't get me wrong, it's hilarious and I absolutely love Homestar Runner, but as far as I know, all the skills that contain a proper name are named after actual NPCs except for Rodgort. The skill icons also tend to point to a more lore-ish aspect, with the "mark" having some kind of glowing rune, and the "invocation" having an image of a demonic dragon of sorts. They lead one to believe that this might actually be a real dragon or something; perhaps a major part of the storyline. It just simply isn't, though, and that is kind of a let-down.

References like the titles, inscriptions, and even the rare and out-of-the-way NPC (like Galstaff the Light), or item (like Vera), are really funny and I support them all the way. I don't, however, like quests, cinematics, and major dialog being imbued with pop-culture stuff. That, IMO, is what really ruins immersion, and tends to have a cheap feeling to it. Like maybe it isn't as intentional as we would think, and more like the writers ran out of ideas.

I love each and every reference.

You keep wondering where each thing cames from or what do each thing refers to, if they refer to something.

The best part of the Wiki is the Trivia!

I don't mind (and even like) weird references to obscure stuff which average player is not supposed to "get".

But i despise "In your face" stuff like Drakes on a plain ... i mean, come on...

Now, what I am looking forward to is more "inside jokes" and references to GW itself in GW2. You know, something that us GW vets can get a good laugh at because we were there, man... we were there.

i love them.

"if it bleeds, we can kill it" is one of my favorite lines ever.

the starwars play acting, evil dead, princess bride...

far too many to mention and not all of them can be found on wiki either..

good stuff.

the most obvious one being DUNE...i mean come on, ride the wurm?

I enjoy them. Laughed hard the first time i came across the blue oysters, then they added "don't fear the reaper".

The pop culture references make up a small aspect of the game and really shouldn't knock anyone out of their "fantasy mode". Some are witty, some are idiotic, but all can be easily ignored.

XDDD

That was GREAT! I loved that!

Also the Vloxen Excavatios > Riders of the Lost Ark

And Gandara Fortress > Star Wars

XDDD Just great, XDDD

I wish they made a reference to the Star Trek movies.

In Ultima VII, the Black gate, the entire Island of Valor is a parody of the USS-Enterprise NCC-1701-D, XD, a gargoyle that looks like Worf, a mayor that looks like picard, a blind africa-american like Geordi... XD

I loved that, XD.

Personally, I like the references. But then again, I'm all for inside jokes and easter eggs, etc. Especially stuff the NPCs say. I've lol'd at those numerous times.

If you like em, you like em. If you don't, you don't. Just like in real life.

I don't call that 'reference'. I call it tribute. And to pay tribute is a good thing.

I personally find getting possessed in an explorable area hilarious, it has a few simpsons quotes xDDD

"My cat's breath smells like cat food."
"My cat's name is Mittens."
"Then the healer told me that BOTH my eyes were lazy. That's why it was the best summer ever."
"When I grow up, I want to be a principal or a caterpillar."
"And this is where I met the leprechaun. He told me to burn things."

If GW's made me feel like i was there not sat in my room playing they'd be bad, but as GW's totally fails at making me feel involved then i don't mind them and find the more subtle ones funny

I liked Khobay the Betrayer for being a reference to Kharne the Betrayer (a Berserker of Khorne from WH40K).

I also like "Go For The Eyes!"

"Go for the eyes, Boo! GO FOR THE EYES!" - Minsc, to his Miniature Giant Space Hamster, Boo.

BioWare Corp FTW

More Pop Culture References, I'm one of the MST3K generation, and less of the hardcore Wannabe LARPers please.
